About Us
MMBA is an organization dedicated to the education and professional advancement of medical billing staff. MMBA was founded in 1990 by a small group of medical billing staff in the Flint area. As word spread and interest grew, MMBA expanded membership throughout the State of Michigan. Membership has grown to over 550 members in all medical specialties.
Today, MMBA is dedicated to meeting the educational needs and networking needs of members by launching a new website which will allow physician practices to join, renew or register with an on-line system thus eliminating paper and mailing.
Our existence is dependent upon having the need and support of billing staff, providers they work for, third party payers and other vendors.
We meet educational and networking needs in the following manner:
- Chapter Meetings: MMBA currently has five chapters across Michigan; Flint/Genesee County, Detroit/Tri County, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Saginaw. Each chapter holds three meetings per year and members can attend any meeting for no charge. Non-members can register for chapter meetings but pay $100 to attend a full day meeting or $50 for a half day meeting.
- Billing Expo: MMBA hosts an all-day event in the spring of each year. This meeting includes timely coding, billing topics and guest speakers. MMBA members may attend this event for a discounted rate off the full price.
- Events: MMBA hosts either half day or all day educational programs that members attend for no cost and non-members pay a nominal fee.
- Prep for CPC Exam: MMBA hosts education sessions for those members wanting to prep for CPC exam.
- AMBA: MMBA has partnered with American Medical Billing Association to offer a billing certification (Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist) at a reduced fee to our members.
- Website: MMBA's new interactive website will allow members and non-members to join, renew or register for classes and pay online. The website will permit practices to perform all functions that you are currently mailing, faxing or calling into our office.
- Directory: Members can search for practices that bill in the same specialty which allows members to network with billing staff.
- Job Openings: With our new website members or non-members can post job openings for 60 days.
- "Billing Forums" will be a new feature that allow practices to post billing/coding questions and receive responses or just have a general discussion about billing issues.
- Insurance Liaison: MMBA is engaged in on-going dialog with major insurance payers and will take your questions directly to the payer.
